INFO

The PRETTY GOOD YEAR video brought Cindy Palmano's beautiful approach back to Tori's work. The video was directed by both Cindy and Sam Riley.

The video, which has an unmistakable Palmano air about it, is shot in an almost empty room. A bed, a chair, and a wardrobe are the only props, and Tori enters the room by crashing through a large-paned window. There are men in the video; one is asleep on the bed, and others catch Tori as she falls backwards and place her gingerly in the chair. The video closes with Tori exiting the room via a reverse jump out of the window which replaces all of the glass.

Casting "Greg" for Pretty Good Year was vital because the song was inspired by a real boy named Greg, whom I have never met -- not that I know of. I received a letter from this boy and it therefore became the seed for p.g.y. The boy that was cast in the video had the real name of Greg and we felt he carried a similar longing... The duality of the video for me is starkness in fantasy. Things are going well, clinically well, or maybe transparently well that she senses what is about to come. Her breaking of the glass to follow him into his private dream world is her way of confirming her instincts. Karen and I chuckled over the Ann Margaret reference, as always when things are on the precipice of blowing up -- break in to a dance routine I say.
