INFO

The video for A SORTA FAIRYTALE, the first single from Scarlet's Walk, is expected in mid-October. The video illustrates Tori Amos' vision of what this fairytale is - finding love through humor. Working with director Sanji, known for directing videos for other artist's such as Lauryn Hill's Everything Is Everything (grammy-nominated) and Mary J. Blige's No More Drama, Tori devised the story about two individuals who feel out of place in this world and by developing trust in each other through humorous situations, they fall in love and eventually become "whole." The video was shot in Los Angeles over two days in September 2002. A Sorta Fairytale features a cameo from actor Adrien Brody, whose most recent and note-worthy films are The Pianist, Oxygen, and Summer of Sam. Commissioned by Mike Sarkissian, the video saw heavy involvement from both Amos and special effects firm Digital Domain.

The video's main character is a leg that falls in love with an arm, and Sanji needs to discuss the leg's "personality". Really, these kind of things matter to Tori. Karen, who's steam-ironing a Jessica Ogden cardigan, explains, "The leg has to be underground and bohemian." Afterwards, Tori sighs.

T: Yeah, I like appendages. You know. I think that A Sorta Fairytale, really, we can't all be Cinderella, and some of us find that our imperfections maybe don't let us open up to somebody, because of what they'll say, and so with this you'll have to work through it.
I: That's great, and you have a great actor, too, and often you can't always get an actor like Adrien Brody in a music video like that, he was great.
T: Yeah, he's great.

"...in my new video, there's a love affair between my character, Scarlet, and the actor Adrien Brody. He falls in love with my Sergio Rossi button shoe. When the two characters finally make love, they create limbs, not babies. But that's another story."
