According to Chinese Feng Shui, the five elements are earth, water, fire, wood and metal. Metal can be found in various forms: copper, silver, gold and bronze are a few. Any material of various opaque, fusible, ductile, and typically lustrous substances that are good conductors of electricity and heat. The metal element provides a connection to the divine, through the breath. It gives us inspiration and helps us see true value. It gives us our sense of quality and value, and our capacity to look at what lies beyond ourselves. It gives us the power to let go. It can be used to let go of anger and grudges to move forward in growth towards quality of temperament or disposition. Before Tori's solo career, her debut album, Y Kant Tori Read was released into the music world as an "uninspired pop-metal album". The style of music and instrumentation could be likened to "metal" in that it contained much use of the metal guitar. On the cover of the album, Tori wields an unsheathed katana (samurai sword) between her hands, resting behind her neck. Y Kant Tori Read not only through these descriptions seem to fit the part of the metal element, but it also fits into the growth of Tori's music since that point in her career. Tori sought to succeed in a musical career. Letting go of her true roots in piano, and even after the album's failure, Tori moved forward still to find out what lies beyond herself, to find her true inspiration which eventually led to Little Earthquakes.
