Intellect; the energy that shapes the pattern of things to come; communication. The element of Air represents the mental and social functions. While Fire rises, air moves horizontally, connecting things that it touches. Air adapts, transforms, reforms and changes, and expresses itself by engaging in social interaction. Air desires perspective rather than intensity, and dislikes strong emotions. Air seeks to cover as much ground as possible and to get an idea or concept of the whole. When I look at the artwork for Under the Pink, I can easily envision the element of Air. The shades of opaque and blue, remind me of looking into a stormy sky. There's a deeper, unseen energy present, but it's not quite tangible. Tori, herself, has referred to Under the Pink as an Impressionist painting. Impressionism, musically, is a style of musical composition designed to create subtle moods and impressions. Of all the elements, Air is the more subtle it's intangibility. Tori has also described the album as, "a self-healing experience to me", which reflects the transforming, reforming characteristics of the Air element.
