MEAT LOAF

BIO >>

Marvin Lee Aday, was christened "Meat Loaf" by his football coach, owing to his enormous size and ungainly manner at the age of thirteen. In 1969 Meat Loaf successfully auditioned for a role in Hair and later took the part of Eddie in the 1975 film version of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. In 1977 on the Epic Records label, enlisting the services of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band, Meat Loaf recorded Bat Out Of Hell. The album eventually rocketed towards the top of the charts in country after country and sold in excess of 30 million copies worldwide, making it one of the biggest-selling album releases of all time. However, with success came misfortune. Meat Loaf split with his manager causing all manner of litigation. He was also drinking heavily, unable to cope with his new-found but barely anticipated stardom, and lost his voice. He also lost his songwriter, Jim Steinman. He had signed a new contract with Virgin Records in 1990, and as rumours grew that he was once again working with Steinman, the media bandwagon began to roll. Released in 1993, Bat Out Of Hell II: Back Into Hell, from its title onwards displayed a calculated, stylistic cloning of its precursor. The public greeted the familiarity with open arms, propelling the first single, "I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)", to number 1 in both the USA and UK, its parent album performing the same feat. QUOTES >>

Gloria Reuben of "ER" picked Tori as her #3 pick for Sexiest Female Artist. She supported that answer with something like: Tori's not conventionally sexy, but she's a person who is not just beautiful but one who has so much talent to back it up -so, that makes her sexy. NewsRadio's Joe Rogan, agreed saying something along the lines of "yeah, Tori's got that freaky sexy thing going. Excellent choice." when they had to eliminate some of the guest's choices to help make the final List, Meat Loaf eliminated Tori saying, "I know one thing: I'm a sexier woman than Tori Amos."

THEM'S FIGHTIN' WORDS; Meat Loaf VS. AMOS

Meat Loaf is discovering what happens when you mess with Tori Amos, even if it's just in an off-the-cuff tirade to a reporter. After recently dissing the singer/songwriter, His Meatness is now facing down an army of Amos fans, who are wielding their critical clout online.

Mr. Loaf was talking with a Canadian reporter about what he perceived as the elitism and insularity of many rock stars when he mentioned Amos and made the metaphorical threat that has so inflamed her supporters: "I heard Tori say, 'If my audience doesn't give me something, then I don't think they're entitled to anything.' That's not the exact phrase... but I wanted to slap her - that's the most insane thing I've ever heard in my life. And she's just the only one who says [such a thing]... She's not the only one who thinks it."

The Meat man, who's no slouch in the give-'em-all-you've-got department, may be misinterpreting the often ambiguous Amos, who seems to conduct her shows as communal gatherings, with plenty of passionate give-and-take between artist and fan. After all, he was complaining that rock stars are "not used to sharing," and Amos has never been known for being withholding, either on stage or in interviews. But it was the reference to physical violence that particularly upset Amos fans, since Amos is a co-founder and major financial supporter of RAINN, the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network.

Canadian online outfit Jam! Music has been inundated with postings from Amos fans. There has been no official response from the singer herself.

During the show, it was mentioned to Tori that Meat Loaf made a negative comment about her. Tori's reply was something like, "All I will say about Meat Loaf, is that I like mine well cooked."
