RAINN . a NOTE
|
"A lot of times you shut off your whole heart off from your experience -- you close the door, and you wither and die. My hope is that the RAINN hotline can be a bridge to the next step."
-- Tori Amos; on how RAINN helps victims
Tori Amos was one of the first celebrities to go public about her rape when she released Me And A Gun on her album, Little Earthquakes, in 1991. By writing and performing songs about her own experiences of being sexually assaulted, Amos struck a chord with her fans, who turned to her for help and inspiration.
Realizing that she was ill-prepared to help them on her own, she helped form RAINN, the Rape, Abuse and Incest National
Network, in 1994. Tori's former label, Atlantic Records, provided the seed money for the creation of the RAINN hotline.
Seven years and more than 400,000 crisis calls later, Tori continues in her role as one of the leading celebrity spokespeople for the hotline.
