../5 weeks tour '99
Tori Amos teamed up with Alanis Morissette for the "5 1/2 Weeks Tour", which began on August 18 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. and ended in Los Angeles, CA. Alanis and Tori officially "co-headlined" the tour, which signified that they both would perform full sets with their own lighting and crew. A third act, an MP3.com artist, opened each show. "We want to give some of these bands a chance," said Tori. "They need to have a shot." Despite the fact that they co-headlined, Alanis closed each show while Tori performed first. Tori's performance included her band from the Plugged '98 Tour.
The "5 Weeks Tour" was sponsored by mp3.com and Best Buy. All of the profits from a special T-shirt sold on the tour went directly to RAINN, a charity Tori co-founded with the D.C. Rape Crisis Center in 1994 which helps sexual abuse survivors.
During the tour, MP3.com featured a website which followed the entire tour, previously located at alanisandtori.com. This website included a "VIP Access" section that contained several photos, an events calendar, a section with tour details,
various contests, and Tori's own personal scrapbook.

"This was truly Alanis' idea. The concept of us doing a double show together. She let me get a little frisky by letting me call it 5 1/2 Weeks. I made tea for her a few years ago when she popped back after a show on the Pele tour, the Dew Drop Inn, and we got on really well. So when she put this idea out there, it was quite good timing."

"Amos is currently mixing her new, as-yet-untitled album, which will be accompanied by an extra disc of live material from her 1998 US tour. But don't expect to hear a ton of new material. 'I'm not going to bore anybody,' she says. 'The record won't be out until the tour is over, but I always put new stuff in, and the set changes every night. The light guy rolls his eyes at me, but at least he can't do as much crack."

"Bringing two visions together to make one show can be tricky, so obviously, it takes a lot of mutual respect and a load of gear. With that in mind, Alanis and I are bringing two trucks just for ourselves: one filled with wine, the other filled with lip gloss."
"There's a chef here [near her home in England] that makes a killer Greek meal," says Amos. "I'm bringing him on the road. Alanis put me in charge of food and wine. I'm hoping she handles hair, because I'm not known for having any knowledge on that end." And the vino? "I have some good Tuscan 1990s that I've been saving; some great '96 whites from France; I'll do a bit of California," she says. "But we never drink before the show - only and ALWAYS after."
