IMPROVS

(intro to caught a lite sneeze--)
i hurt myself today
to see if i could feel
i hurt myself you said
to try to make him feel
so i hurt myself again
to see if he'd see me
i hurt myself again
i know he never could see me

(intro to bells for her--)
somewhere long ago
in the mountain tops, say
somewhere not far from here
me and beenie had a little falling out
somewhere long ago
not so long so i don't remember
so long
we can see now
take a little love you and me
take a little love me like you say
take a little wax sometimes
cause sometimes i hear him
take me there i'm stronger still
take me there when he's calling me
take me back to a time
i would sing all day
i hurt myself today
to see if i could feel
i hurt myself today
to see if he could hear
and then i hurt myself today
to see if you could feel
i said you hurt yourself sweet boy
i tried to never let you.....

(intro to precious things--)
i hurt myself today
to see what could feel
hey, yes..
somewhere back to you, i said
somewhere back to you

(bridge to caught a lite sneeze--)
i hurt myself today
you never could
you never did
you're full of shit
you never did

COMMENTS

Tori has used Hurt several times as bridges and intros to live versions of Caught A Lite Sneeze, Precious Things, Bells For Her, Blood Roses and Love Song. The track can be found on the Dew Drop Inn Boulder bootleg from Boulder, CO on November 11, 1996 and the I Touch Myself bootleg from East Lansing, MI on October 16, 1994. Tori also performed it during the televised broadcast of Sessions at West 54th.

"This person walking out the door, this affects me - at least I'm not so numb. And if you're numb, you can't dance. So it became this thing about celebrating loss. Because I value it and it's touched my heart and I'm hurting that it's going. At least it meant something to me. When Trent Reznor wrote Hurt - 'I hurt myself today, to see if I could feel' - I thought, 'Hey, this girl [Talula] *feels* man.'"
